AirPortal is the culmination of a multitude of inspirations rooted in the idea of exploration of new territories. The terminal’s framework structure and supplemental mobility is informed by the original covered wagon, which remains a symbol of pioneering. To pioneer, by definition, is to venture the unknown in both the physical sense as well as in expanding new territories of thought. Black Rock Desert has long been a locus for ground-breaking, from land speed record setting to free thinkers seeking a home for sharing forms of art and experience. While there is little left in the physical realm to pioneer, the final frontier of exploration remains within the self.
